At the top of the list country like Belarus, Ukraine, Turkey, Cuba, and Kuwait including 17 more  take place with a GIH score of less than five.. This was reported on the World Hunger Index website on Wednesday. This organization holds the world record for hunger and malnutrition. The GIH report was co-authored by the Irish aid agency Concern Worldwide and the German agency Welthungerhilfe , which said hunger levels in India are currently "severe".

In 2000, India was ranked 83rd out of 113 countries. This year the number has risen to 102 out of 117. India's GHI scores have also declined - from 38.5 in 2005 to 32 in 2010 and from 32 to 30.3 in 2010 to 2019.

The GHI score is based on four indicators - 1) malnutrition; 2) infertility in children, the amount of reduction in children under the age of five (i.e. underweight, which is associated with malnutrition); 3) decreased physical growth in children, lower in height than in children under five years of age (meaning chronic malnutrition); And 4) mortality in children under five years of age.

According to the report, the child malnutrition rate in India was 16.5 per cent from 2008 to 2012, which increased to 20.6 per cent between 2014 and 2018. Among 9 percent of Children aged 6 months to 23 months 9 has get a “minimum acceptable diet”. "The infant mortality rate in India is 20.8 per cent,  highest among the countries listed in this report," the report said.

War-torn Yemen, or Djibouti, which is plagued by climate problems, also get better position than India in terms of child mortality, the report said.

India's neighbors Nepal (73), Sri Lanka (66), Bangladesh (88), Myanmar (69) and Pakistan (94) are in this 'severe' hunger category, but they are more successful than India in feeding their citizens. Note that Sri Lanka is 'serious' ‘From’ to ‘moderate’ hunger has shifted and China (25) is currently ranked in the ‘low’ hunger category.

In some cases, there is hope. Malnutrition due to inadequate food and malnutrition has reduced mortality among children under the age of five in India. The report, citing the central government's Swachh Bharat campaign, said "The country was still undergoing open defecation. Despite the construction of new toilets, open defecation is taking place. There is a risk of harm to human health in this situation and it also affects the growth and development of children because their bodies cannot absorb the quality of food." And that's why India is ranked so low in the list.
